1. The original concept for Facebook was borrowed from a product produced by a prep school Phillips Exeter Academy which for decades published and distributed a printed manual of all students and faculty, unofficially called the "face book"
2. The very beginnings of facebook started when Mark Zuckerberg had just been dumped by a girl and needed a way to get her out of his mind. Here is what he wrote on his personal blog that night.
"I'm a little intoxicated, not gonna lie. So what if it's not even 10 p.m. and it's a Tuesday night? What? The Kirkland [dorm] facebook is open on my desktop and some of these people have pretty horrendous facebook pics. I almost want to put some of these faces next to pictures of farm animals and have people vote on which is more attractive."

9. How about this for a little shocker. In December of 2008 the Supreme Court of Australia ruled that a summons posted on Facebook is legally binding.
10. The average user spends more than 55min. per day on facebook
11. In March of 2008 facebook had over 500 full-time employees and was worth $15 billion and is still growing.

13. Those who use facebook Mobile are 50% more active than non-mobile users

ReplyDeleteWhen you say that is has been around officially since Sept. 2006, what do you mean? Was it just not available to everyone? I ask cause I was on facebook in fall 2004.
ReplyDeleteIt started as just a site for people at Harvard then it spread to few other Ivy League schools. By the summer of 2004 it was available to all colleges in the U.S. and Canada (which is probably why you were able to join then). In 2005 it started spreading to include high schools. Then in September of 2006 it was open to anyone over the age of 13.
